I worked as an electrician at a factory that produced clear plastic bottles for major drink companies. Our clear, thin bottles actually had 4 layers of 3 materials, the outer and inner layers being the duplicate material. One middle layer was recycled plastic and the other was a “barrier” to improve shelf life. The barrier compound was known to cause cancer, it’s MSDS sheet stated such.We had to be very careful handling said compound and were instructed to wash immediately if ever exposed to skin.I noticed that whenever I came near it the smell would repulse me and almost as if my human instincts compelled me to avoid it.
Pretty nasty stuff, get yourself a stainless steel water bottle as me and my family have done.
    Good luck.
